Survival Before, During & After 2012

Many people are now concerned about the upcoming 2012 event.  I saw this same level of panic during the arrival of 2000 (also know as Y2K).  Where it was believed the world's computers would crash, plunging society into total chaos.

I have more reasonable concerns over 2012, largely due to the number of scientific facts which support knowledge from ancient civilizations that something BIG will happen.  Now, what exactly will happen...I can't say, but  I feel that if I am prepared and nothing happens nothing's lost.  I'll just not have to go grocery shopping for a REALLY long time!

Survival in any scenario is basically the same, be prepared for anything you think can happen, then plan beyond that for things you didn't think could happen.  This website is a perfect resource for just that very thing!

I have extensive supply lists which are applicable to any disaster, additionally for those with the money and not a lot of free time, there are ready made kits, shelters, survival gear (including some NIFTY solar generators).

Specific to the 2012 event, there's a number of concerns (according to all the science and tinfoil hat speculations)...Magnetic Polar Shift, due to galactic alignment where it has been wrote that all the planets will align with the center of the galaxy, causing a change in magnetic flow, polar shifts which will cause oceans of earth to rise/fall.  Also that plate tectonics will cause massive earthquakes (hey how about that Haiti quake eh?). 

Personally since I'm in Florida, I'm more worried about the Island of La Palma, which sits on a fault and is postulated that should an earthquake affect that island, it would slide off into the Atlantic causing a massive tidal wave.  This would of course pretty much screw anyone in Florida.

Other scenarios point to eruptions from Yellowstone's massive caldera.  Scientists have recently discovered it's not a typical caldera, it in fact hooks up with the molten core of the earth (whole lot of lava).  There's been an increase in the size of the caldera, as well as a marked changed in elevation.  Combine that with increased earthquake activity.

If (and I said IF) Yellowstone erupts, it would be considered a global catastrophe, the resulting ash/dust cloud would block sunlight for many years and lead to extinction of many plants, animals and people.

Now another interesting aspect of 2012 doomsday is killer sun spots, when combined with polar shift, well...could get ugly!  You see, our planet is protected from harmful solar radiation by a magnetic 'shield' of sorts, during a polar shift this shield is either weakened or not present at all.

Of course what this means is, should a solar flare hit our planet (as they do ALL the time, just not with alot of force), then anything on the surface would be 'baked' including our atmosphere.  (if you ask me, that's what happened to mars...many years ago).

Using that as a model...mars is much further from the sun, so....don't think we'd fare to well.  Your only protection would be far underground  and have all of your electronics shielded in a faraday cage. This same protection  would be required if a nuclear bomb was air blasted (detonated in mid air) which causes much more blast wave destruction, puts more radiation up in the clouds and more importantly, spreads an Electro Magnetic Pulse (EMP) which can and will instantly fry any electronics in operation, or not enclosed in a faraday cage.
